Mastodon’s excellent new album The Hunter comes out tomorrow. And to celebrate this most joyous occasion, we have a prize package consisting of a T-shirt, hat, and koozie.
The Hunter is more streamlined than most Mastodon albums, but it still kicks plenty of ass. The songs are more structured — no 19-minute prog-metal epics about Moby Dick or menacing woodland creatures here (you can read our review in this week’s Scene).
Do you want all this cool stuff we’re giving awat? All you have to do is leave a comment about what you think Mastodon’s next album should be about. We’ll pick a winner by the end of the day.
Be sure that you’re registered with a valid e-mail address. We need that to tell you if you’ve won. Also, you have to come to our office in beautiful downtown Cleveland to claim your prize.

They’ve done elemental themes a lot. Earth(Blood Mountain), fire(Remission), water(Leviathan), magic/spirit(Crack The Skye), so I’d have to say air would be a great theme for the next album.
Two people have already listed it.. Air .. something to do with the power of wind. Songs about Tornado’s with cyclops eyes or Evil vortexes….. a warrior will prevail and save earth from total devastation.
I don’t know.. but it’ll be a lot more cooler than my guess. Vortexes though… power of wind.. We’re onto something here.
Starving Pygmies in New Guinea – – – – Git r done!
Their next album should be in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind
I think they’ll come back with a concept-type record with the idea of things beyond our being and the world we know. They’ve already touched on most of the earthly elements and out of body experience so I think the next record would go even farther past all that.
And the winner is…?
