Longtime air personality Nancy Alden, who held down the midday slot at WDOK FM 102.1, has been let go by the CBS Broadcasting-owned adult contemporary station, which declined to renew her contract. Alden has worked in Cleveland broadcasting for almost 30 years, most of them at WDOK.
According to the Plain Dealer, program director Dave Popovich says she wasn’t dropped to save money, adding, “She’s a great talent. We love her,” begging the question of why she was.
Rumors are rampant that the station will be moving to a slightly harder mix of adult contemporary with a syndicated format called “Fresh.” Some observers are speculating that the station’s popular morning man, Trapper Jack, could be the next to go, as Cleveland radio continues its march into oblivion. This change follows the recent return of V107.3 to a “smooth jazz” format after two years playing a mic of contemporary and classic adult-oriented rock. — Anastasia Pantsios

Nothing like lack of personality across the dial. It’s the primary reason I switched to XM years ago. Tragic that this once thriving, original radio market is turning into homogenized crap.
I liked Trapper with Robin Benzle in the morning…hasn’t been the same since she left.

Popovich response = horse hockey. Bean counters = more vanilla broadcasting and more $ in their pockets. They simply don’t care about the audience.
