For the third time in recent memory an ODOT contractor failed to finish up overnight work before the start of morning rush hour and caused a massive traffic jam.

This time it was on I-480 and the culprit was Karvo Companies, which was supposed to be finished with overnight work on Monday heading into Tuesday morning by 5 a.m. and instead hung around until 8. With only one lane open, I-480’s usual cluster turned into a megacluster.

ODOT announced that it is fining Karvo $300 for every minute it went past the 5 a.m. deadline.

“We are working with the contractor to make sure this does not happen again,” ODOT said in a release.

We’ll update you when this inevitably happens again.
