Not one heartwarming running story involving kids this week, but two? Ohio is home to all sorts of sportsmanship and goodwill.

Meghan Vogel was in last place in the 3,200 meter race at the Ohio Division III girls state meet in Columbus. She’d earlier knocked out a personal best in the 1,600 meters, but her energy reserves were on E for the longer dash and she lagged behind the rest of the competition.

Arden McMath was in front of her, having a bit of a struggle of her own. She was faltering, falling, and fighting just to stay on her feet.

Vogel caught up to McMath, picked her up, and helped her across the finish line, making sure McMath was in front of her to claim the 14th spot. The crowd erupted at the show of sportsmanship. Video below of the reminder that people aren’t completely horrible.
