As good ol’ boy institutions like NASCAR — and the U.S. Navy and Marines — have decided to finally ban the Confederate flag from being displayed at their events, the Ohio House of Representatives instead decided to pass House Bill 665 without amendments doing the same.
House Bill 665 is a county and local fair bill that in essence attempts to regulate the safety of amusement rides and also addresses things like funding for fairs.
While the bill was being debated on late Thursday and early Friday morning last week, House Democrats added two amendments that would have banned the “sale, display, possession or distribution of Confederate memorabilia at county and independent fairs,” and also cut state funding to fairs that sold Confederate memorabilia.
These amendments were similar to the ban on the sale/display of the Confederate flag and assorted flag merchandise enacted by the Ohio State Fair in 2015.
But a Republican majority passed House Bill 665, without the language prohibiting the flag at fairs.
Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) issued this statement when House Bill 665 passed — without either amendment:
“It was treacherous that the majority of the Ohio House Republican members voted against the passing of my amendment to prohibit the selling, display, and distribution of any confederate memorabilia. The Confederate flag is a symbol of treason against our country and oppression against all descendants of slaves, who are mostly African Americans. The civil unrest that is occurring in the streets requires us to take action, not give lip service. If we want all of our county and independent fairs to be welcoming spaces this symbol must be prohibited. I am looking forward to introducing a stand-alone bill outside of what was presented on the floor. I am tired of legislators protecting racists acts.”
Rep. Brigid Kelly (D-Cincinnati), issued a statement saying, “The Confederate flag is a symbol of racism. It is offensive and hurtful to many and simply has no place in our society. Other states and organizations have — and are — prohibiting the use of and display of confederate flags — including NASCAR, the US Marine Corps, and even the state of Mississippi is exploring (in a bipartisan way) taking the confederate symbol off of its state flag. There is no reason why Ohio can’t or shouldn’t follow suit.”
The bill has now moved to the state Senate for their consideration.
The confederate flag continues to enjoy a mystifying amount of support in Northeast Ohio. Sadly, not a ton has changed from when we examined the topic at-length five years ago.

Ironic, isn’t it?– that is, Democrats protesting a flag created by Democrats for Democrats.
Historically, it was Southern Democrats who seceded from the United States of America and created the Confederate States of America in part because they did not want slavery to be abolished.
It was also Southern Democrats, who passed Jim Crow Laws and who opposed desegregation.
It is also Democrats who support abortion, which BlackGenocide.org says is responsible for the African-American population to be 25 percent less today due to about 16 million unborn black babies having been intentionally killed.
I’m not Republican or Democrat, but as a moderate political independent, I find it interesting that Ohio Democrats are fussing about a historical flag that Democrats created.
Is it because Democrats are embarrassed about their political past and don’t want Ohioans to remember that Democrats supported slavery, practiced racism, and started the American Civil War?

However, today’s Democratic Party still has a history that it should be embarrassed about.
For instance, Democrats supported Jim Crow laws and opposed civil rights legislation for African-Americans in the 20th Century, and still support abortion, which a lot of African-Americans today refer to as Black Genocide.
If you want to learn how Jim Crow laws were made possible in the former Confederate States, google “The Compromise of 1877” on your own.
FYI, the KKK was founded by Democrats too.

After all, a lot of young Americans do not yet know that historically the Democratic Party supported slavery and Jim Crow laws, and opposed civil rights for African-Americans.
The Democrats and Republicans of the 1860s are not the same parties they are today. In the 1860s, the Democratic Party was the conservative party, and the Republicans were the Liberal party. Early in the 20th Century, their ideologies switched and they became the parties we know of today, the Democrats being the liberal party and Republicans being conservative.
The Southern Democrats you refer to would be known today as Republicans.

Democrats even discriminated against Republicans, who moved to the South for opportunity after the American Civil War, who they referred to as “carpetbaggers”.
What I find very interesting are the mobs of Democrats protesting in cities controlled by Democratic politicians, like in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Cleveland, etc. demanding radical change.
The reason why is because Democrats already run local government, which includes the local police departments, in these cities.
Like the Democratic rebels of the past, there are a lot of Democrats still rebelling today.

Who goes to county fairs anymore with their lax ride and food safety inspections? Add in the pipeline of assault weapons that regularly enter and exit during gun shows (who really makes sure they leave the grounds?) and we’re one nutjob away from a grandstand massacre of Las Vegas proportions. Democratic U.S. President Woodrow Wilson was extremely racist– even for his time, and he allowed Jim Crow laws to be put into place in Washington D.C. and allowed the secretary of the treasury and the postmaster general to segregate their departments. As a result, black federal workers were fired, and those who remained had to deal with separate but unequal work places, lunch rooms, and bathrooms. Woodrow Wilson also was an admirer of the KKK, which he called the Great Ku Klux Klan.
