The Avon Lake space that housed three separate eateries in just six years will again open its doors to fussy west-side diners. That space — at 32858 Walker Road — has housed Wood Fire Grill, Michael Symon's Bar Symon, and Swingos Grand Tavern. By mid July, the space will reopen as Parker's Grille and Tavern.
The concept, which combines an approachable tavern menu with deep operational and culinary talent, should be a winner. Parker's is operated by James Mowbray, 10-year GM for Morton's Steakhouse, Victoria Mowbray, his wife and CIA grad, and Paul Kalberer, longtime Morton's executive chef. It is named after the Mowbray's three-year-old son.
"After 10 years of being the general manager of Morton's, and Paul being the executive chef for the last 14 years, we have an opportunity in Avon Lake that we could not pass up," explains James.
So, what sets Parker's apart from previous failed ventures at that site? "My wife and I have lived in Avon Lake for the last six years and love the community," says Mowbray. "We always felt the city needed a neighborhood place where people could go for great food and service. A place with an atmosphere like Cheers.
The menu will feature classic American tavern food built from fresh ingredients. Mowbray says diners can look forward to gourmet burgers, hand-cut steaks and chops, weekend prime rib, and entrees like pan-fried walleye and five-spice pork.
Guests will notice some changes to the interior, but it still will feel open and airy, with polished concrete floors, dark wood backbar, and exposed duct work throughout. The bar area will accommodate 15 guests and another 25 in the lounge.
Drink choices include classic cocktails, 15 draft beers, 20 bottled beers, 15 wines by the glass, and 25 by the bottle.
"We also have the best patio and one of the biggest in Avon Lake, so you can enjoy your cocktail or beer outside this summer," says Mowbray. Additionally, a 120-person banquet hall will be available for special events
Parker's will serve dinner Tuesday-Sunday. Look for an opening right after the 4th of July.
