It’s been nearly a year now since Cleveland Clinic nurse and mother of four Aliza Sherman was brutally murdered outside the Galleria downtown. The high-profile crime netted headlines across the city for weeks. But as we approach the anniversary, the city and Sherman’s family, of course, is no closer to justice than they were last March.

Few developments were publicly announced after the murder. Cleveland Police released grainy video surveillance footage, though the visuals get neither officers nor the public any closer to figuring out what happened on March 24, 2013.

It was a Sunday, and Sherman was meeting with her divorce lawyer in Erieview Plaza. Despite the personal family turmoil, everything, it seemed, was OK in her world. But that day, she was stabbed 11 times. Nothing was taken from her. No trace of who had committed the crime left behind.

Immediately, theories swirled about who could have done this. None are really fit for print here and none come close to providing hard evidence for the police investigation. At the time, police announced an opinion that this was a targeted attack. As of this week, requests for comment from the Division of Police by Scene were not answered.

“Justice for Aliza,” a public rally of support, will be held at 5 p.m. March 24 at East 12th and Hamilton (near the Galleria). The rally will stir awareness for the case and sound a call for self-defense training for women.

The Homicide Unit, meanwhile, accepts information related to the case at 216-623-5464.

  1. It sounds like a cold case — but it still does not give the Division of Police an out to ignore the Scene’s request for a comment…..which can fuel loud speculation that can easily stride into conspiracy theories.

  2. As said before, this case is open and will continue to be open until the monster/murderer is caught! We will wait as long as it takes! Our search for justice will never go away!

  3. This comment is Directed to S@ndy did it: How do you sleep at night making comments like that. You are the one acting like the SS making claims on personal beliefs and propaganda. On a side note if you want to remain anonymous with your slanderous comments try use a static ip address otherwise it shows the location the message is coming from

  4. This comment is directed to Mary Feuer: You are 100% right, this is not a cold case and the monster will be convicted. A case does not become a cold case until 5 years have passed. To the people making references to cold cases, World War II SS. You need to spend time learning an education of World War II SS and what exactly a cold case is. Don’t make hasty generalizations or comments without proof or any education on the topic you are commenting on. Fortunately we live in America and this is not a Salem Witch hunt Crusade or 1942 Germany, people are not judged based on propaganda and insinuations with no backing
