In today’s bout of drunken driving news, a Painesville man was cited for disorderly conduct after allegedly operating a motorized Walmart shopping cart while intoxicated.

Police were summoned to Eastlake’s friendly neighborhood Walmart yesterday after customers complained about a man drinking beer in the store’s lobby. When the cops arrived, witnesses told them a man had been zooming around in a motorized vehicle and had driven the cart into the restroom.

Police then spotted a 54-year-old man bumbling out of the men’s room on his scooter, which was sporting an open 12-pack of Milwaukee’s Best.

When questioned by police, the intoxicated man told the authorities he was headed to Painesville. It’s unclear whether or not the man thought he’d be driving the shopping cart all the way there.

He apparently also told police that he knew he was in a Walmart, but that he just didn’t know which city— they do all look alike, don’t they?

The man was cited and released by police once he’d sobered up.

  1. So, it was less that he was drunk driving a cart, but more that he had an open 12 pack in that cart?
