Remember last fall when Ohio was besieged with robocalls from ’50s teen idol Pat Boone, aimed at protecting union-busting SB 5 from repeal?
The importuning of the squeaky clean pop singer, famous for swiping and sanitizing songs first recorded by rhythm & blues stars, didn’t have much impact — SB 5 was repealed in a landslide. It’s tough when half the people getting your call say, “Who is he?” and the other half say, “He’s still alive?”
Boone has made quite a career of recording such robocalls and ads for conservative candidates, most of whom lost. That’s good news for Senator Sherrod Brown. Because, according to today’s Columbus Dispatch,
Boone, a spokesman for the 60 Plus Association, a conservative alternative to the AARP, launched an ad campaign Monday that spends $720,000 hitting Brown on the health care bill. Boone has been featured in prior ads critical of Brown, including one that aired in November of last year. The ad specifically focuses on the Independent Payment Advisory Board, a 15-member panel tasked with reducing Medicare costs. The 60-Plus Association worries that it will lead to rationing care for seniors.
“This IPAB board can ration care and deny certain Medicare treatments so Washington can fund more wasteful spending,” Boone said in the ad.
Of course, the IPAB is specifically barred from doing that. But when you were the Justin Bieber of your era, I guess you’ve learned that a smile and a croon can make any message sound convincing — whether it’s telling a roomful of screaming girls they are the most beautiful girls you’ve ever seen or telling those same girls 55 years later that the Kenya-born, anti-Christian, Arabian-speaking Muslim in the White House (all actual Boone claims about President Obama)) wants to take away your health care. — Anastasia Pantsios

I find it funny not too many years ago the Religious Group he was a spokesperson for kicked his ass out for making a album doing covers of Heavy Metal by Artists such as OZZY. His album cover was a hoot with the old man bare chested in a leather vest while his arms were covered in the fakes stick on tattoos I have ever seen. Oh Well, guess Alzheimer’s finally got to him.

I grew up listening to him in the late Fifties and early Sixties. He was an icon of the early Boomers, and I still like his music. But now that he’s a GOP puppet, at 77, and a voice for the Christian hatred of blacks and gays…and the POTUS…I find him to be a despicable human being.
He has championed the causes of Reagan, Bush 43, and McCain. He equates liberalism with cancer. He has called those who opposed Gulf War II unpatriotic and traitors. He is a both a Creationist and a Birther.
He doesn’t know it yet, but he will not be singing to Jee-zuzz…Pat Boone has assured himself of a long tour in Hell.
The commercials are one thing…it was the phone calls, during the week before the November elections, that really pissed me off.
I thought he was rockin’ on some porch in Tennessee and kickin’ back and enjoyin’ his seniorhood…he’s pushing 80.
But no, he whores himself out for the puppetmasters in states like Missouri and Kentucky…and now he’s crossed the Ohio and is spewing his horse puckey in a northern industrial state…telling lies about a “Medicare IRS” and how Obama will siphon off Medicare funds and bankrupt it in order to create “new programs” involving more “wasteful spending”…
He’s railing against our Democratic senator and he uses all the GOP buzzwords that talk down to voters like they are nothing more than easily-led, confused “sheeple”…denial of claims…rationing of care…making you choose some other doctor…panels of “unelected bureaucrats”…do you know of any Federal civil service employees who ARE elected? What total garbage.
I’ve gone from thinking he was next-door to dead…to hating his guts and hoping he dies a slow, painful death from throat cancer.
