Via Cleveland.com’s ongoing reader memory series, here’s a dynamite shot of 1500 young men gathered on Public Square staring intently with covetous looks at young women participating in WIXY’s First Annual Hot Pants contest. We particularly like the fellas who have climbed trees for a better vantage point.

The photographer is Richard Ader, who was working for the Case Observer at the time. He also captured this image, which will help explain just what kind of “hot pants” the ladies were wearing.
