HuffPo got its paws on the 1996 Beachwood high school year book, which is notable because those pages contain the picture you see above of Josh Mandel in drag (he’s on the right) spotting another dragged-up dude doing some exercises.

Nice form there, Josh.

Mandel is laughing it all off.

When asked for the context of the photo, Mandel communications director Travis Considine replied, “Josh didn’t remember it, but it looks like he was joking around for a gag photo in his high school yearbook. Humor has always been an important part of his personality, especially when he used it to keep up morale among his Marines in Iraq. He also thinks it’s important to have a spotter when you’re doing lat pull downs.”

  1. i really hate that he uses being in the armed forces as a political stepping stone. in fact, that alone will stop me from voting for him.

  4. Josh has one very important thing going for him: He was in the military. But that seems like the only thing positive which he has going for him. The giant money from the right is not a real positive as far as I am concerned. And hating Brown is not a good thing either. And saying he will not be pushed around and taking money from the right wing control organiszations seems like he either does not understand yet how these guys operate, or that he is with them and will be pushed in whatever way the money demands.

  9. This makes me think of that Oscar de la Hoya pic of him in drag from several years ago. The funny thing about Miss Mandel is that this ‘gag’ (in more ways than one!) photo looks more like trannie porn than a high school joke. Josh would make an excellent transvestite model- he can really pull off the effeminate look- he has the right curves and pouty face. He really is a manly man, big bad Marine. lol Of course, Josh supports ‘family values’ and is against gay rights, but dressing up like a tranny fag is all in a day’s fun.

  10. Its a HS year book photo. Really people? None of you have ever done something ridiculous as a joke? Some would argue that people who put down others may have the most skeletons in their closet. Any one have something you want to discuss? I will listen and wont even judge or tell anyone else, I promise. It will just be between us and maybe a billion or two of our closet friends. Any one want to listen to a fellow human being who wants to get something off their chest? If so, will you promise to keep it a secret please? I think the guys got stones for letting that in the year book. He doesn’t seem to be insecure about anyone questioning his masculinity. He didn’t try to keep it a secret, its right out in the open, everyone he went to school with must have seen it and he knew it. Its not like someone discovered it hidden like it was a deep dark secret. That seems to show security and confidence and even integrity and credibility more then anything else. Someone find a picture of him with some space aliens, then ill really be shocked. Some of the funniest movies with the funniest comedians have had men dressed as woman and have done great at the box office. During these challenging times for many people why not just laugh a little at a ridiculous HS joke, at least the guy has a sense of humor which is more then we can say for most politicians. I think there idea of fun is taking more money out of our paychecks, now that’s obscene and perverted nor is it funny. Don’t we have more important things to discuss then Josh dressed like a woman? Cant we just all get along?

  12. I like the photo and really really do not care about it. What I do care about is someone who lies.

    When Josh stated that he could not remember it , it really told me a lot about his character.

    How could he not remember something as significant as this photo and in his high school year book yet? This just gives us an inside on how well he will remember things if put into office. Myself, I would prefer someone who has a little bit better memory.

  13. I don’t care about his sexual identification, but I care a lot about how quickly he snapped out such a lie about it. He’s insulting everyone! But mostly, he showed that his first impulse is to lie. You’ll be seeing a lot more of that from a kid who has basically NEVER accomplished ANYTHING as an elected public official. NOTHING. ANYWHERE. EVER.
