“Until further notice, all store-owned items are hereby reduced up to 50% of original price,” the Prospect Music Facebook Page announced. “We still have guitars, basses, clarinets, trumpets, saxophones, all kinds of accessories for school band & orchestra, guitar parts, hand percussion, strings, pedals, instruction books, and much more.”
The inventory is getting sparse with just over a month left before closing. The storefront at 818 Huron Road is scrawled with window marker: “Going out of business sale. Closing Everything Must Go!!”
Prospect Music opened in 1941 and has long been downtown’s only music store. Michael Rubin took it over in 1982 and has been operating it ever since. In the 1990s, the store briefly relocated to E. 4th Street, but moved to its current location after five years “due to development.”
In its most recent post, the Prospect Music page reported that Beyoncé trumpeter Arnetta Johnson came into the store on July 25. He “scored some valve oil at a low low price!!”
