Protestors will rally in Cleveland Saturday afternoon to demonstrate against the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.

The “I CAN’T BREATHE” JUSTICE FOR GEORGE FLOYD assembly is planned for 1:30 p.m. at the Free Stamp at Willard Park.

“Black Lives Matter Cleveland is joining the call for Justice, We are sick and tired of asking for Humanity, we are sick and tired of begging for our Freedom,” the group said on the Facebook event page. “We are sick and tired of seeing Black bodies laying in the streets of America. We are sick and tired of video after video of our people being murdered, gunned down, stalked and hunted in the streets. WE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED.”

Protests continue to grow in Minneapolis and elsewhere over the death of George Floyd, and in Louisville over Breonna Taylor’s death at the hands of police.

Locally, Black Lives Matter Cleveland will “also be standing in solidarity with the Franklin family” for the death of Desmond Franklin, who was shot and killed by a Cleveland police officer earlier this year.

  1. Hopefully the mayor has the national guard on the way. We have seen how all the others have gone. Im all for protesting but the fires and looting is bullshit.

  2. Yeah, they’ll protest over some guy in Minnesota, but they could not care less about all the blacks killed in Cleveland because, of course, they are killed by other blacks.

    Black privilege.

  3. It makes more sense to protest in Minneapolis than it does in Cleveland about Minneapolis police officers’ role in George Floyd’s death, because George Floyd died in Minneapolis, not Cleveland.
It would be like protesting in Cleveland about China’s suppression of democracy in Hong Kong.
You can do so, but China isn’t going to notice, and no one in Cleveland had anything to do with it.

  4. I know, let’s have all of the released prisoners from Elkton and Mansfield get all released at Willard Park so they can all participate in the Mayham also!!!

After all, they will blend right in with the daily murders, shootings, burglaries, and carjackings that take a place here on the streets of Cleveland on a daily basis anyway!!!

  5. There are also reports that a cop started the fire inside the Minneapolis police station that the protesters allegedly burned to the ground. They are trying to start a civil war.

  6. Mister Akron, get your head out of your ass and pay attention. That woman was killed in an upscale, gentrified, yuppified, Caucasian neighborhood. She was murdered by a trigger-happy idiot who should never have been hired as a cop, but she wasn’t choked to death in front of an audience that was watching and recording the murder.

And yes, there were protests…plenty of them…but they were non-violent. How do I know? That woman was killed four blocks from my kid sister’s front door. Better to keep your mouth shut if you don’t want to look like a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

  7. Watching the outlaw cops strangle the life out of Mr. Floyd or give permission for Mr. Floyd’s heart disease to kill him was gruesome. That Minneapolis police seem to have a proclivity to kill black people seems apparent from past history. However, there’s another group for whom CNN/MSNBC/Al Sharpton appears to have zero sympathy: the business owners, hundreds of them now, who have their property destroyed or significantly damaged. And I just bet that some of them are black people. Businesses that they had the ambition and gumption to start, business that pay taxes and employees. I went to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune website and read the sickeningly long list of destroyed/damaged businesses. Something all you Clevelanders should do, but I know will not. CNN/MSNBC will give about 30 seconds of air time to that part of this tragedy before turning to the rantings of professional race-baiters like Sharpton. But by the time this 5 or 10 act play is over, who will be the biggest loser? Think about it. Thanks to the losers who destroyed the sympathy of the public will change from the late Mr. Floyd to the hundreds of innocent business owners and employees. How do I know that? Because it has done that for me.

  8. “That Minneapolis police seem to have a proclivity to kill black people seems apparent from past history”

Q: Do you know who has well over 1000x more proclivity to kill black people?

    A: Other black people.

    Why no protests about this?
I hope this cop gets the chair maybe it will send a much needed memo but stop with the black lives matter crap if you are going to ignore the far and away number one cause of violent death for blacks. Over 130 murders in Cleveland last year mostly black dying at the hands of other blacks.

  9. TO: You can’t handle the truth: Your point is legitimate, very true. However, the issue is the killing of black people by white police under circumstances that clearly beg the question of legitimacy. Ask anyone in law enforcement about murders and the first fact you’ll be told is that nearly all of them involve people who know each other. Few are stranger versus stranger.

I don’t believe I was dishing out black lives matter propaganda. Let’s right now confine ourselves to the issue of unwarranted police killings of black people, or anyone for that matter.

I will not attend the demonstration this afternoon. Not interested.

  10. I love how all the idiots come out just to point out that black people kill other black people, like that somehow justifies systemic race based violence from racist police officers. You right wingers and your whataboutism style of argument really is hilariously stupid and has not a single thing to do with the topic at hand.

Now, if you want to talk about things like the systemic racial suppression that’s been going on for 100s of years and how that leads to an insular culture that lives in perpetual poverty and the things that leads them to do then we can talk about that. However, you might want to take your head out of your ass and realize how and why such a situation came to be. It wasn’t blacks suppressing other blacks, keeping them out of decent schools and jobs and neighborhoods. It wasn’t blacks lynching and beating black people making them distrustful of authority and especially police officers and watching that video you can see that their fears are justified. This shit didn’t happen in a black only vacuum and reading the comments you can tell that racism is still alive and thriving in America. Realize that ALL of us, whites, blacks and every other color played a part in this and have a little goddamn empathy for a change you heartless buffoons.

In any case, what happened to this man is outrageous and it needs to stop, period.

  11. Just hear Columbus is having more hoo-ha. It’s a few minuttes past four. I’m on the Far West Side and the wind is blowing toward the east, so I can’t tell if there’s any smoke. Is there a riot going on?

  12. The protesters has turned public opinion against them when they resorted to attacking the police, arson, and vandalism. All of this was caught on video. I hope that the authorities use the videos to identify, indict, try, convict, and imprison the violent criminals and that their judges order that they pay restitution– especially for the two Cleveland police cars they vandalized and torched. This would result in them being placed on “legal” while on prison, which means they would have money deducted from their state inmate pay and they won’t be able to buy honey buns, drink mix, ramen noodles, cheese, cookies, ice cream, and all the other junk food Ohio prison inmates usually buy from the prison commissary.
The violent criminals were counting on anonymity and diffusion of responsibility to assault, commit arson, and vandalize public property with impunity, but they have to deal with the fear of being identified, indicted, tried, convicted, and imprisoned while being court-ordered to pay restitution for the tremendous damage they caused.
In the future, the Cleveland Police Department should not have their police cars parked anywhere near a public demonstration, and they should have plainclothes police officer mixed-in with the crowd to readily arrest violent agitators.

  13. There’s a few good insightful post here. Then there’s oh so subtle ones that smell of racism.

Stay clear of the post or people who blame the protesters and imagine the problem is somewhere else. I would assume those are the tools and the blissfully ignorant.

You should stay clear because we need to come together and blame the right group for what is happening to us. I understand your fear. We Americans have been through civil unrest where city have burned before. However now with the lost of the middle-class many young whites are disillusioned. So you add to that the systemic racism and yeah we have might have a problem.

It is the machine that’s putting us all down, it’s the corruption of our politicians who are lobbied (paid) for their votes. It’s the fact we are in the living in largest division of wealth in the last 50 years. This seems like it could cause a problem.

There’s a lot of young people out there who have no hope for the future so they have nothing to use. Many of them drove to downtown Cleveland to express their anger. Some of them drove a long distance, these people are your neighbors, and some are your kids.

For me the focus has to be on the corruption. Look at the options for president, it’s an insult, it’s a joke, they don’t care anymore about us.

The problem is with the person in the mirror. It’s how you’re willing to promote a system of hatred that in turns keeps you down. It’s how you bully others to keep them submissive. But the problem is most of all you can’t look in the mirror so you’ll never see how dirty your face is.

So wash your face and remember it’s the politicians that are rubbing your face in shiet. You’re not allow they’re doing it to all of us, stop blaming your neighbor for what the bully is doing to you.
