West 73rd Street, the roadway that takes you from Detroit Avenue to Edgewater Park, will close to northbound traffic on July 17. It will reopen in December, the city says.

Drivers will be detoured down Lake to the Shoreway. People who live in Battery Park will be sent over to West 74th for the rest of the year.

The end result, one anticipates, will be pavement that glides like ice and brings eager families to the much buzzed-about Edgewater Beach House just in time for Christmas. The price tag on this job is $1.76 million.
