Update: Looks like Laketran jumped the gun. Though the official date of Public Square’s closure will be announced in the coming days, both the RTA and the Downtown Cleveland Alliance say the Feb. 1 is incorrect. Stay tuned for more orange barrel news as it comes in.

The long-awaited groundbreaking for the master makeover of Public Square is coming in less than a week.

Laketran broke the news. (Huh? Right.) Ontario and Superior will be closed as through streets, with only public transit and local traffic permitted access until next spring when the plaza will be gilded in gold and free burritos, we assume.

Either way, below is the email update they sent. Note: There was no official sponsor for this email, but that will surely come next.

  1. Do you have any sense of how access to the square itself will be affected? i.e. for pedestrians and such.

  2. All I want to know is when the square is actually closing. That’s the whole point of this article, which says Feb. 1st….. But not really Feb. 1st. Why even post the article??
