[UPDATE, 4:30 p.m] Raymone Clements pleaded not guilty to the charge of being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition. He was arraigned in U.S. District Court at 4 p.m. today.
He will appear for a detention hearing Jan. 25.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000.

Raymone Clements, the man accused of shooting a dog named Forrest in Cleveland Heights last November, will appear in federal court at 4 p.m. today.
He was indicted yesterday in U.S. District Court for possessing ammunition following felonious convictions, including: the rape of two girls (ages 7 and 14) in 2006, drug trafficking in 2003 and aggravated robbery in 1991.
Clements was originally scheduled to be arraigned in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas tomorrow morning, but the fresh federal charge superseded that process. His case is being closely watched by animal rights advocates and Forrest’s burgeoning following.
The hook is that, while the federal charge carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years (more than the five he would have picked up via the county), the animal abuse misdemeanor charge against Clements has been dismissed.
It’s unclear what, if any, additional charges will fall to Clements (or anyone else involved in Forrest’s shooting last fall).

Another gun (and ammo) falling into the hands of a felon. Wonderful. But yet, it’s bad to let non-felons have guns, because that would be bad and horrible.
