Community engagement coordinator Joseph Linsky says these companies prey on at-risk home owners to get properties cheaply.
“For the last couple years, we’ve seen them all around the city, but in our neighborhood especially we can see how badly predatory practices can hinder us,” Linsky tells Scene.
Linsky says he and his coworkers remove these signs whenever possible, and have a nice pile going. Now the plan is to upcycle them for an installation at the group’s annual Rooms to Let art event May 18-19. But SVD still needs more signs to complete the work, hence asking for outside help.
“We hope to have enough by next weekend,” Linsky says.
No matter how many signs are removed, however, Linsky says they are quickly replaced, sometimes within the day. Yet Linsky says his group still thinks the removal effort is worthwhile.
“It sends a message to these people who are running these pseudo-companies,” Linsky says. “We’re looking out for the neighborhood. We want our housing stock to be as good as possible.”

People in West Park are engaged in removing these signs, too…we will not have our neighborhoods ruined by predatory vultures who prey on homeowners with false claims of crime, racial incidents, and Section 8 lowlifes and renters destroying what so many have worked so hard to maintain. If you see one of those signs, ANYWHERE in Cleveland or its suburbs, tear it down and tear it to pieces, ice cream cone or not!

If these signs go up in Kamms Corners, they will come down. If they go up again, they will come down again. Do your panic peddling somewhere else. We are not a slum, and we are not going to become one.
To the racist blockbuster… what about those claims you list are false? From Old Brooklyn, we are where you were a few years ago. Section 8 and the drugs, trouble and filth that comes with (much, not all of it) have been destroying property values a few houses at a time. After a while, entire streets are wasted away.
All kinds of respect about neighborhood solidarity, but don’t put your head in the sand. There is not much on the horizon to indicate that new wealth is coming to the area.
Oh, really? Ask someone in real estate before you snark about new wealth. West Park is hot. Homes in the Kamm’s Corners area don’t stay on the market for long, and prices and home values are rising after years of falling or remaining stagnant.
Folks who are being priced out of the hipster areas are moving out west, especially after they realize that they can often rent a whole house, with porches and a yard and a garage, for what it would cost to rent a little box with cardboard walls in the “cooler’ neighborhoods. So younger people are moving out here when they finally want to have kids, or get tired of the downtown and near-downtown bullshit.
And their neighbors are older people who have lived in their older homes for decades, and are not going to be scared off by a bunch of racist a-hole flippers with their obnoxious signs. There are even a few who say “I was born here…and I’ll die here.” And these jerks will not drive them out.
Many of them are not afraid, and their homes have security systems. They watch their streets for signs of trouble. They are also armed. You really think the predatory clowns and the lowlifes who follow them are going to scare a police officer or a firefighter into moving to the sticks? Dream on, pal.

when homes start selling for $600k-$1m like other major mtros that have high paying jobs is what I mean by new wealth. A few cops or city workers aren’t exactly big money.
When millionaire business owners and inventors start moving to west park, let us know. Jackson can go there instead of gates mills for his fundraisers.
