kenny yuko medical marijuana bill

State Rep. Kenny Yuko has a vision for a greener Ohio. And as promised, the Richmond Heights Democrat has introduced a bill in the Ohio House to legalize the growing, distribution and usage of medical marijuana, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

Ohio will become the 15th state to legalize marijuana for medical purposes if Yuko’s bill passes — something the Dispatch doesn’t think will happen.

If that’s the case, then Ohioans may wish to follow Michigan’s lead, says Ed Orlett, a former state lawmaker and Ohio representative of the Drug Policy Alliance. In 2008, Michigan voters approved a medical-marijuana ballot measure by 63 percent.

“Ohio voters may elect to take matters into their own hands just as Michigan voters did and leave the legislature out of the process,” says Orlett in a press release. Orlett, along with members of Ohio
NORML and Ohio Patients Network, helped Yuko craft the bill. — Damian Guevara

  1. Thanks for giving us a much more positive review than the Dispatch. For anyone looking to write their Rep’s in support of this Bill, efforts are currently being focused on the Rules and Regulation Committee to have them refer this Bill, HB 478, to the Health Committee, not the Criminal Justice Committee. 2. Thank you for supporting medical marijuana in Ohio. I am permanently patially disabled due to a work injury from 6/25/07. I had surgery 7/10/08. I learned how to walk 2 different times and I have 2 5′ inch screws in my right heel and had to have my ball joint shaved down as well as a bone put into my foot from my knee and a kadabra bone replaced into my knee.
I take pain pills prescribed by my doctor, I have seen several shows on marijuana use such as “American Drug War” “Marijuana Inc” I am 26 yrs old white male I returned to the employer where I got injured at Oct 09. My situation is still on going with Workers Compensation.
I can not do anything physical due to my injury which I have been told by 3 different doctors as well as 4 state doctors that I will always have pain and arthritis in my foot, leg, and my back. I hope you continue to fight for peoples rights such as my self and others who can benefit from medical marijuana and not just pain medication. I have alot of “FACTS” of why and when marijuana was made illeagal in 1937, “due to 1 mans racial beliefs that marijuana would cause white women to be attracted to mexicans or black men” If you can get signatures from Ohio residents and present them I think that would help. I would also be willing to share my story on national news or tv to get the point across that marijuana will help people in many ways. Thank you. Sincerley Nick Vliege resident of Cincinnati Ohio

  3. I know this is a fairly old story, but, the comments here were the only place I was able to find that mentioned the bill number. Thank you, Don.
