Update: The city planning commission was supposed to vote on Biff’s great casino-themed gambling sculpture today after all. (A brief note here: The plans only were made public three days ago. Clearly, as you may have seen around the interwebs, that was enough time for readers to lambast the tacky ode to degeneracy but it really wasn’t enough time for legitimate public input before a city vote.)
Which brings us to the news: Joe Cimperman pulled the item from today’s agenda late yesterday, according to Cleveland.com.
Cimperman said he wants a chance to discuss the project with Horseshoe and with city planners to gain a better understanding of the project before it comes before the commission for a vote.Let Cimperman, the city, the casino and anyone else you can think of hear your constructive thoughts, Cleveland. He also said he wants to give downtown residents a chance to weigh in before the proposal moves ahead.
“We have engaged residents,” he said. “People want representation.”

In a city that cherishes its art, one historic plot of land will bear a new addition to the cultural landscape if the Horseshoe Casino has its way. And it really is up there in the upper echelons of high-end public art.
Yes, that is a gambling-themed sculpture, complete with dice and poker chips. Probably ready to take its rightful place next to the Free Stamp and other city landmarks.
As Michelle Jarboe McFee reported this morning, Rock Caesar has submitted plans to the Cleveland City Planning Commission for the space where the historic Stanley Block building, which was razed in 2012, once stood.
And here some people thought the chandelier was tacky.
Welcome to Back to the Future Part II come to life, where Biff wins.

Good fucking Lord.
PLEASE GOD NO.
i like how classy it is
How original.
They put their heads together, brainstormed and came up with that?
Put up a nice waterwork fountain thing.
Put a artsy horseshoe sculpture in.
Who the hell came up with chips and dice? They should be fired.
Maybe they could work on PHASE TWO of the actual full size casino being built before trying to get a huge dice statue placed in the city. Build what you PROMISED to get the casino and stop with all of this stupid penny and nickle bull.
Is Dan Gilbert going to make the City of Cleveland pay for its creation and installation?
I swear I’ve woken up with night sweats about this, and I haven’t even been to bed since I first red about it yet.
Why not just a giant turd?
Stupid idea!! We already know there’s a casino in our backyard… now, they have to throw it up in everyone’s face?? Cleveland needs more CULTURAL art, not CAPATALISM art!
It’s hideous.
I understand its the casino and am in favor of legal gambling, casinos etc – I even think they should add sports gambling – but they couldn’t come up with something better than that?
Maybe instead they could have a statue of Gilbert laughing while he cashes his monthly 20 million dollar check.
