Remember how we told you a few weeks ago that Clevelanders think other Clevelanders are kinda ugly?
Turns out the rest of the country doesn’t think too highly of us either.
Not that that’s breaking news. Cleveland has been a regular on Top 10 shit lists for a decade now.
A new study published by some eggheads at The Atlantic keeps things rolling in the new year for Cleveland: We’re No. 3 on the list of U.S. cities that elicit negative reactions among fellow Americans.
As always is the case in lists like these, Detroit once again beats us out, topping the list of cities that people think suck. (Cozy little racist burg of Birmingham, Alabama, is at No. 2.)
There’s a whole bunch of number-crunching and dissecting of what this all means by the guys who did the study. It’s all blah-blah-blah-Seattle-is-so-fucking-great, but you can read the whole thing here if you want.
To be fair, the study is more a look at how all those other Top 10 lists affect how people think about other cities. We’re guessing very few of the people who took part in it have actually visited Cleveland.
If there’s any good news to come out of this it’s that Cincinnati and Columbus are also on the list, as are St. Louis and Milwaukee.
So it’s not just you, Cleveland — most Americans (or at least those surveyed here) think the entire Midwest generally sucks balls.

Here’s my take on it. Everyone is pretty quick to fling shit at northeast Ohio in general. It’s a new national pastime. Ohio is the 7th most populous state in the country, so if nearly 12,000,000 people are wrong then fuck the rest of them. It will always be more acceptable to tell someone you live in NY or LA, but really has anyone assessed the quality of living in those cities lately? I know people, personally, that moved to the aforementioned cities and all they’re doing is bidding their time. People between the ages of 28-32 still living with 3-5 other roommates just to keep the electric on. So many midwesterners moved from their hometowns to the coasts seeking to fulfill their bullshit dreams. Most of them are working at bars or coffee shops or any other typical mundane job that you can do anywhere. But they feel that at least they’re doing it in New York. It’s a sad delusion. Adjacent to talented people does not make you talented as well. Everyone is moving to these buzz-worthy cities with the hopes of lighting the world on fire, but in reality, they’re just as average as the rest of us. And their idea of doing something important is going out. It’s really the only reason they moved there. The nightlife is something they can instantly attach themselves to. Then post retarded pictures of themselves on facebook to try and make the rest of us “sad losers” stuck back home feel like we’re missing out. They might not admit it, but they’re just as miserable as everyone else. They’re just too busy getting their clothing line off the ground, in between hangovers and trips to the free clinic, to tell anyone.

The cost of living of many great places is so high that the poverty stricken is all but high incomes. The traffic jams keeps everyone pissed during the day and the big corporations worship money and hate regular people. The people who vote for or against life in other places are never the shit-out-of-luck people (like me). At least around Cleveland people don’t look at you like you are a piece of shit if you have a ten year old car held together with duct tape..hell we bond with others using duct tape as a fashion statement and even have a duct tape festival thanks to the old Manco company..now Shurtech I think. We have the oldest free speech forum in the country with The City Club and we have the most productive of the Great Lakes with Erie. We have an infrastructure which can grow with changes as well as any..and the fresh water will one day be more valuable than oil. The rankings seem to follow very closely to the violence level which I believe New Orleans is #1, then Detroit at #2 and then Cleveland and Cinci are right there as well. Most of the violence is not directed at regular people so it is really an over-rated thing. Since I have become poor and lost my business and am on food stamps I pretty much feel more comfortable in a poor neighborhood than I do in my house (in forclosure) in Rocky River. People with big bucks always look down at people who are in financial trouble. So many people are either uppiddy or working toward that goal. I find living and seeing people who need help and give help as some of the best living I have had. When my ship comes in and it is real close, I will be a good wealthy fucker instead of the prick I was when making rich guys more rich and thinking they liked me for anything other than my ability to sell their products and get the customers to like me. I do love Cleveland for its’ character which is just another way of saying the people..and I could give a fuck if some pushy fuck-face in NYC thinks Cleveland is hell because we are regular people. I have been told that Cleveland is the most charitable big City in the country..now that’s something to be proud of.
Job creation is the purpose of everyone. If we just look at the tremendous opportunity which exists today in America because of the huge unemployment numbers, we would see not as unsolvable of a problem as many other problems which other countries have faced. We are not really at war in our towns and cities. We have too much violence but on a level of what many others face daily, we are pretty peaceful. Most of our population has safe drinking water and is not in absolute starvation as over one billion of the seven billion people on the planet do face each day. We have something resembling freedom and the freedom to say what we please about our government and the giant corporations which are supposed to be helping us survive and enjoy living. We have recently identified the force which holds many down as the super-wealthy corporations and the politics which they believe they can buy. This is a direct result of educating so many lawyers and MBA’s and accountants and greedy people as to how to gain all of the wealth and then keep it accumulating at an ever increasing rate. Our higher education has not taught enough thinking skills, yet has concentrated on skills to count large amounts of beans and create houses of cards which after they fall those who took the most are free to repeat the same game plan with another group of smart lawyers and business educated guys. We worshipped guys like Donald Trump and threw garbage at the homeless and insane. Our money worship has reached an all time high and our respect for anything other than money made has all but left our minds and our habbits. We have come to blame the lower class for all of the faults of the society and the world in general, and we have idolized the CEO’s and super-wealthy entertainers. We have allowed our main stream media to dictate our thoughts and our votes and our likes and dislikes. Our main stream media is owned by the same men who own politicians and giant corporations. We have stood by while our jobs have been taken away from us through business deals, mergers and take-overs of all kinds. Our country was not built by those who have taken it over with money. We did not fight wars for greedy giants who have sold their souls with our lives and our children’s lives. We need to demand our country back and work together to make a better world. Speak up and help take back the dignity and spirit which should be our rights. Expose the takers and the greedy fuckers who have turned our country into a shit house. The City Club has stood for freedom of speech for one hundred years. Let it become a light which shines from Cleveland onto a confused and abused country. Civil Rights have also been derailed by the same greedy fuckers who sent our jobs away. The problem in this country is easily seen and the revolutions happening around the world and in this country are gaining attention and validity. Remain non-violent yet educated and statistical and expose the problems and the men behind them. Believe that Cleveland is a chosen city made out of the salt of the earth and the fresh water of the Great Lakes. Unite rather than separate races, religions and cultures. Become fearless and reasonable and don’t allow anyone to tell you to shut up. We can become great for the right reasons if we respect and help and love one another. Thirty-six years in “Chicagoland” (both the city and the suburbs), born and raised there…and after twenty years here I don’t miss much about my native city except for the live jazz, the lakefront, and the Cubs…but hey, we’ve got Huntington Beach and the Browns (wish we still had a jazz scene here). I can go from one side of town to the other on uncrowded expressways in half an hour…try doing that in Chicago.
All these surveys come out of the back end of a horse…because they are generated by horses’ asses who poop out that same tired Boston-NY-Miami-LA-Seattle-San Francisco crap, year after year after year. It’s not where you are…it’s who you’re with and what you are doing…I learned that a long, long time ago.
Sure, I hate the gray skies and the snow…but warm breezes and sunshine won’t kiss you back. Get and keep your priorities straight…and tell anyone who quotes those surveys (yet again) to go take a flying one at a rolling one.

Yeah all of those fly over jackasses taking a survey. Give me a break. Visit us next year when we have new bars and restaurants on the East side of the river and an aquarium on the West side. A casino downtown and a pretty good baseball team.Thank GOD for global warming because it doesn’t seem to really snow but a few times a year here and now that we have worked out of the rust belt mentality and into the medical mentality of doing things we actually have a future. We have housing being built all over the city for the rich and the poor (Obama water park on Central)and we have lots of construction and high paying union jobs at least into the decade. Corruption has been cut way back for a few decades and there is a new hope with a clean county government led by a St Eds guy. So were doing good when few other cities are.
BUT the Jackson Sweeney (Ignatius)team are way way off citing me for garbage, red light cameras and street sweeper tickets. I have a $2,000 water bill no one can explain to me and I stopped in to check out a new bar on west 25th and Lorain and you guessed it…got a parking ticket from a guy in a brand new city car illegally parked (both which pissed me off as much as the ticket)

Run the city right and run it well when the new casino money comes in and close Burke and make it a park while your at it.
