The ThistleDown Racino is undergoing the first stages of a makeover beginning today to become JACK ThistleDown.

The closure is very temporary, however. JACK will reopen/open to the public at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The racino and Horseshoe Casino recently unveiled rebranding plans after Rock Gaming became JACK Entertainment. The last time the track underwent a serious overhaul was in April 2013 when it became a racino. Before that, it operated solely as a racetrack for 89 years.

During its temporary closing, the racino’s gaming systems will be updated to reflect the new changes. New signage will begin cropping up within the month and $70 million in renovations will be completed by early April.

As for the Horseshoe Casino’s transformation, it’s unknown at this time when or if it will briefly close for changes. It officially becomes JACK Casino in May.

  1. When taking a look at the sorry state of horse racing in Illinois and West Virginia, with serious issues being brushed aside due to the grand history of the sport in California and New York……having a few chuckles at the new name of an Ohio racino that is doing the right things on the backstretch — is not so bad.
