Trio of Cleveland Restaurants Notch Honors

Another day, another example of national publications looking toward the shores of Lake Erie and remarking, "You do damn fine work there, folks." And actually, today brings three delicious recognitions.

1. There are sports bars that trade in what most sports bars do but shouldn't — the routine menu of fried appetizers, stale domestic beer, and a dizzying circus of TVs and noise (one such example rhymes with Marpos) — and then there are bars that cater to folks who want to enjoy the game, enjoy the food, and enjoy the beer. ESPN the Mag likes those bars too, and they listed their favorites around the country in this week's issue, including Cleveland's own Melt, ranked No. 10 on their list.

2. Food Network mag went on a quest for the best pizzas in the country — 50 states, 50 pies — and found no match in Ohio for Bar Cento's Sunnyside Pizza. (We agree wholeheartedly.) Pancetta, eggs, provolone, and pepper? Yes. And yes again. And sure, we'll have a third slice.

3. Finally, the Cooking Channel will be at Greenhouse Tavern Saturday August 13 filming for Unique Eats because they've selected Jonathan Sawyer as a local hero. Hell, a man who puts gravy, bacon, and eggs on fries is really a national hero. Let's be honest here.
