President Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday morning that he’d spoken with General Motors CEO Mary Barra, who told him that the recently closed GM Lordstown plant will be sold to Workhorse Group Inc., a manufacturer of electric trucks and utility vehicles.
Workhorse is a Cincinnati-based company that currently only has about 100 full-time employees. Among other things, it manufactures an electric pickup truck that has received interest from corporate and municipal fleets.
Cleveland.com reported that the sale is not final but that the sides are still in the “early days” of a negotiation, according to Workhorse.
It’s unclear how many workers Workhorse will need at the Lordstown plant.
Trump also Tweeted that GM would be spending $700 million in Ohio at three locations, creating 450 jobs.
The Lordstown sale would be contingent upon approval of the United Auto Workers union (UAW).
