“I’m a Second Amendment supporter and that’s not going to change.”

That’s Gov. John Kasich yesterday on the matter of H.B. 495, which would grant greater breadth to concealed-carry permit holders in the state.

Essentially, the legislation would allow people to bring a gun into the Statehouse parking garage in Columbus and would allow anyone to carry a loaded magazine or speed loader in their car – and within reach.

Regarding Kasich’s Second Amendment line, he added that he plans to sign the bill into law sometime this week.

This business obviously comes hot on the heels of the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Dec. 14. Kasich added: “Going forward, we need to pay close attention to what the experts conclude from this incident in order to see if there are lessons to be learned and applied here in Ohio.”

Those experts, one might infer, aren’t the ones working on this soon-to-be approved law in Columbus.

Until then, apparently, legislate away.
