UPDATE:

Pending approval from the Ohio Department of Agriculture and barring a forthcoming legal challenge, the spider monkey that bit a man in Vermilion may be euthanized today. The concern, according to the Ohio Department of Health, is whether Brodi has rabies. The department explains that euthanization is needed to test the monkey’s brain.

Vermilion Police (and Brodi’s owner, Jacob Ruehlman) have confirmed with a veterinarian that Brodi has received a rabies vaccination.

Some jobs are naturally deemed high risk, but car salesman isn’t at the top of the list— that is, of course, unless you’re a salesman who deals with customers and their exotic animals.

According to a police report, an employee from Vermilion’s Pat O’Brien Chevrolet was recently taken to an area hospital after being bitten by a customer’s pet spider monkey.

Apparently the employee asked the animal’s owner if he could pet the monkey (they are cute, aren’t they?) and was told he could. But Brodi, the monkey, wasn’t too sure and bit the man, drawing blood.

The employee was taken to the hospital, where it was confirmed that the monkey had been vaccinated for rabies. The employee was treated and later released.

As police investigated the incident, they found the monkey’s owner to be in illegal possession of an exotic animal (surprise).

No word on where little Brodi will end up next.

Still up for debate, however, is the pressing question, Who goes car shopping with a pet monkey?

  1. Hey Surprise!

The owner was not granted legal documentation since the government has not issued any new permits since the new exotic animal regulation
They provided proper documentation that the permit IS pending, and DOES belong to the owner. He is NOT owning Brodi illegally.

Oh yeah, and he never asked permission to pet the monkey.

    They were not car shopping…..

The man drove HIMSELF to the hospital.

Like where are you getting this information?

    Please get the facts straight.

  2. These animals are NOT PETS. It is DISGUSTING that “owning” these animals is still legal, and even more DISGUSTING that they are STILL being bred in captivity, the baby being RIPPED FROM IT’S MOTHERS ARMS so it can be sold to some STUPID HUMAN…. it’s SICK. Monkeys bond and love each other as humans do. Imagine someone ripping away YOUR CHILD, and then forcing you to have more and more, taking them away each time. ITS WRONG.

  3. After reading PickelsTheCrumudgeonDog post i now know why some animals Eat their Young .
But i guess they havent thought their own post out or know very little about animals and Love and how smart animals really are ,

as with anything there are good and bad there are more bad breeders who just want money then good breeders who try and improve the breed or keep a species alive and then some that sell to Idiots. But it is never the animals fault be it scared or taught to be cruel never is it the animals fault.

  4. I have signed the petition, but there is some question as to it being too late, please someone update the status for Brodi, praying for a compassionate outcome

  5. How is picklesthecrumugeondogs post being disliked? What they said is all true. NONE of this would have happened, nor would the monkey had to have been euthenized if PEOPLE STOPPED OWNING WILD ANIMALS. if you truly loved and respected the animal, you’d let it live gots life the way nature intended. But no, people have to be “interesting” and show how cool and interesting they are by owning an exotic animal. And look what happens. Disaster. And now this poor baby lost its life for it. Why they needed to test its brain is beyond me. What did they figure out? “Oh, just what I suspected… its not domesticated. Its a regular monkey that’s been traumatized its whole life.” Awesome.
