The city of Lakewood is jumping on the hometown pride trend with its own promotional video. We’ve seen a million of these for Cleveland, produced by and for various means, but the city’s suburbs don’t often get the same showcase. Until now. Lakewood’s features sites and sounds from popular spots across the city, as well as major events, local businesses and schools. You’ll recognize Bike for Beck, the Lakewood Arts Festival, Light Up Lakewood and more:

Progressive Insurance recently released a promo video of their own highlighting areas throughout northeast Ohio. It’s been named a top workplace in the state of Ohio, and Lakewood is one of several seeing a boom in professional millennials migrating to the region.

Cleveland currently ranks eighth nationally in attracting young professionals.

  1. Not one picture of the gold coast condos or any of the new buildings being put up in Lakewood. Really???

  2. These videos – this and the Cleveland ones – drive me nuts. They are well intentioned, but not well done. They all have bad music, are way too long, and use a mind numbingly exorbitant amount of slow motion shots (leading to the previously mentioned way too long run times). The best ones were done a couple years ago by Positively Cleveland and ran a minute long. A minute promo gets the point across without overstaying its welcome.

  3. A lot of sound and fury signifying nothing. Why? Because…shitty, annoying music, and too many images that are far too short and seem to show nothing but festival after festival and street fair after street fair. Those of us familiar with Lakewood know the city is a lot more than all that, and has far more to offer. This video doesn’t make that clear at all.

But hey, it’s got the jittery music and the endless jump cuts (if that’s the right term)…so all the too-short-attention-span Millennials will love it, and some of them might even probably give it a meaningless award. maybe two.

Bottom line: Was this trip really necessary? (Not really. ) Will it help attract more entremanures to check out Lakewood? (Possibly.) Or make them want to live there? (Perhaps.) Does it say anything really meaningful about such a desirable place? (Not so much.)

Grade: C-/D+ …slow it down and lose the music…revise and resubmit…

    And folks will…damn betcha!
