Update IV: Tired of this story yet? Well, it’s not going away. The uppercutee, Shidea Lane, appeared on Art McCoy’s WTAM show for the second time to talk about her side of the story.
“I have been in relationships before where men just disrespect and dog and put their hands on me and for this man who has no clue who I was to just disrespect me – I just couldn’t take it anymore,” Lane said. “It was going too far.”Hughes claimed that Lane spit at him, prompting him to punch her.
“I take care of my daughter as a beautiful mother and I just want people to change their perspective about me and not just judge me before they know anything,” Lane said.

Update II: RTA has filed disorderly conduct charges against the uppercut victim. The union is also addressing driver safety concerns. The victim is probably in the midst of filing her inevitable civil lawsuit. And this story feels old and tired already. (Cleveland.com)

Update: RTA suspended and identified the driver. Via WKYC:
Early Friday afternoon, RTA identified the driver as Artis Hughes. He has been suspended pending the investigation. He and his union president have been notified, so RTA released his name.RTA says Transit Police were called to the scene on Sept. 18 and completed an incident report.
Hughes stated that he was assaulted by a customer, Shidea N. Lane, 25. Transit Police and Beachwood Police were both called to the scene.

Driving a bus in traffic 8 hours a day is hard enough.. without some nasty drunk making trouble.
Drivers don’t get paid to put up with this.
both your coments are ignorant and disrespectful. the bus driver should not have been going back and forth with this child in the first place. He’s an adult and should’nt be putting his hands on no ones child. what he should have done is call transit police. If it was my daughter that he had hit, he would have to deal with me.
Jeffrey, with the comment you made about about an adult should’nt put his hands on a child that is the problem we are having now. I do agree that he should have called the transit police, but did you also see that she did put her hands on him first. Your stated that is she was your daughter, he would have to deal with you, why? You raised her, and if you raised her correctly she should not have been arguring with an adult in the first place. Think about that for a minute, you woud not have to stand up for her, if she knew where her place is as a child.

This doesnt surprise me considering I dated an RTA driver for 4.5 yrs and he ended up pulling a loaded .38 revolver on me. This driver was a good friend of the one I dated too. These drivers are under so much stress. I used to hear the stories every night when my ex came home. People really need to leave these drivers alone before a driver ends up killing someone.
People treat each other like absolute garbage, because they think they’re better than they are. Just because someone drives a bus, or takes our your trash, doesn’t mean they’re less of a person than you. Stop putting yourself above other people, because you just might get put in your place. Case in point here.
The cops would have let this lady off with a warning. Looks like the driver knew that and decided to take matters into his own hands.
She should have stayed in a child’s place!
I am sure the RTA driver had to undergo drug/alcohol testing, maybe even hair analysis, what about the uppity disrespectful young entitled passenger that started this mess in the first place ?
I’m confused. Art McKoy was fired by WTAM and replaced by Zack Reed. But this article says Art still has a WTAM talk show. When is that on? I’m assuming Art was filling in for Reed or something. Get the facts straight, please.
