If you haven’t watched Warrensville Heights police officer Nakia Jones’s video, it’s well worth your time. In the wake of Alton Sterling’s shooting death at the hands of two white police officers in Baton Rouge, Jones recorded a seven-minute Facebook video yesterday reacting to the news.
Jones talks about her professional history — hired as an East Cleveland officer in 1996 — as well as why the wife and mother became an officer in the first place. The video of the officer shooting Sterling and killing him struck her deeply.
“How dare you stand next to me in the same uniform and murder somebody,” she said. “How dare you. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. If you’re that officer and you know you have a God complex and you’re afraid of people who don’t look like you, you have no business wearing the uniform. Take it off.”
The video has been viewed some 2.3 million times in less than 24 hours.
