Cleveland's Pre-Thanksgiving Traffic is Nearly the Worst in the Country, Google Says, And Here's How to Avoid That

It's not all in your head, Cleveland has the second highest concentration of Thanksgiving traffic in the country the day prior to the holiday, a Google Trends analysis called Mapping Thanksgiving has once again reported.

According to the 2018 data, as compared to Cleveland area traffic patterns on a regular Wednesday (because, duh, plenty of other cities have bigger holiday backup by volume), more people are traveling through/from the Cleveland area than most spots in America the day before Turkey Day. Google Trends even suggests that leaving for your Thanksgiving destination from Cleveland at 3 p.m. Wednesday is pretty much the worst idea you've ever had.

But there's a simple solution — besides banging your head against your car window and calling your mom to tell her you can't make it — leave Thursday morning at 4 a.m., the report suggests. This way you get to sleep in your own luscious bed the night before all while avoiding the shit-show highway parking lot.

The rest of the weekend, feel free to take it easy, with family or not, and maybe even hit up the Christmas Story House or the Cleveland History Center (previously known as the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum), the places Google claims Clevelanders are most like to search. ABC the Tavern is also the most-searched restaurant/bar during Thanksgiving time.

Whatever you do, just don't drive back to Cleveland on Saturday or Sunday afternoon (see below):

Traffic or not, you most likely want to hang out with your friends Wednesday night for a big Thanksgiving-Eve get-together. Find all the events you'll want to check out in the Cleveland area right here.
