The Cleveland Orchestra Does Tchaikovsky and the Rest of the Classical Music to Catch This Week

Add opera, sea shanties, emerging composers, and visiting violin and classical guitar virtuosi to the classical music mix this week. Pick what looks intriguing, and enjoy!

– Les Délices takes a break from its usual French Baroque fare to play a pirate-themed event with free admission on Friday at 7 at Rocky River Public Library, and again on Sunday at 3 at The Brownhoist Ballroom.

– Franz Welser-Möst leads The Cleveland Orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony and Maurice Ravel’s Rapsodie espagnole and Concerto in G with pianist Seong-Jin Cho Friday at 7:30, Saturday at 8, and Sunday at 3. Tickets available online.

– In Hall Auditorium, Oberlin Opera Theater opens a four-performance, double-cast run of Mozart’s La finta giardiniera, directed by Stephanie Havey and conducted by Christian Capocaccia on Friday and Saturday at 8, and Sunday at 2. Tickets available online.

– On Saturday at 3, in a Keyboard Extravaganza, the Cleveland State University Keyboard Area and The Lakewood Project, Lakewood High School’s rock orchestra, will bring together pianists of all ages for a free, family-friendly event in Lakewood Civic Auditorium. And at 4, conductor Steven Smith and Cleveland Chamber Symphony present their annual, free NEOSonicFest Young and Emerging Composers Concert in Gamble Auditorium at Baldwin Wallace.

– Finally, on Saturday at 7:30, Cleveland Classical Guitar Society hosts Marko Topchii on its International Series at the Maltz Performing Arts Center. Tickets available online.
