Good Graces Bakery and Café (1300 E. 9th St.) has opened in the AECOM building downtown, in the glassy space that had long been home to Anna in the Raw. The shop was founded by Grace Cohan, a classically trained pastry chef and chocolatier.
After growing up in Cleveland, Cohen spent time traveling and cooking around the world, including West Africa with the Peace Corps and more than a decade in Austin working in restaurants, hotels and chocolate factories. Now back home in Cleveland, Cohen opened this café “to create the kind of place she always wanted to visit.”
The café, open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., offers coffee, pastries, salads and breakfast and lunch sandwiches. On the sweets menu are cinnamon rolls, homemade Pop Tarts, pecan praline brownies and strawberries and cream cake. The breakfast sandwich stars an egg soufflé on a brioche roll with cheese, ham and a crispy hash brown. There is avocado toast with a soft-cooked egg, and ham-and-cheese puff pastry.
For lunch, there is a grilled chicken sandwich with brie and pear, roast beef with horseradish mayo and fig jam, BLTs and more. Each week will feature a different soup, quiche and pizza selection.
