Jack Flaps, the eclectic chef-driven diner in Ohio City, has closed. The past few months (years?) have been rocky for the café, with sporadic closings and re-openings offering hints of the ultimate fate. The restaurant opened in December of 2013.

“It is what it is,” says owner Randy Carter. “The sales have been going down the past couple years and the debts of the other restaurants are weighing me down.”

The “other restaurant” to which he’s referring is Jack Flaps Luncheonette at the 5th Street Arcades, which closed its doors this past January after three and a half years.

  1. Very sad about this! Sucks because this restaurant was amazing but…

    Horrible service
They had the best effing burrito ever and then randomly changed it completely
Also the smallest spot ever. Always a 45 minute wait. Its rediculously stupid to have to wait 45 minutes every single time.

Sad to see this go. Great food minus the switch up on the burrito (WHY DID THEY CHANGE IT).

  2. Its sad because their pancakes were AMAZING. But each time I went I had to snack before I got there because I knew the wait would be super long. The last time I went I said I would never go back, so obviously Im sticking to it. I got some of the WORST service of my life. Great food, so that sucks, maybe try again in a few years? And hire better staff who arent complete assholes to customers for no reason???

  3. And Michael Symon is still a total flop in tremont. That dude is history. Lolita was great, now hes a slumlord.

Bummed to see jack flaps go, hope they dont Michael Symonize the storefront like he did to Lolita.

  4. Hipsters can’t afford $20 pancakes after spending 2/3 of the paycheck on rent!

  5. not surprised because the one that was in the Arcade had lousy over priced food, luckily the location is back in business under a different owner

  6. How about a well-run breakfast joint in that space? Serve decent food – better quality eggs and bacon than the Big Egg or Nicks. Good service but no need to go white tablecloth for breakfast. And quieter than the Market Cafe which can be hard to take first thing in the morning.

  7. Service was always rude and poor. It only got worse the past two years. “How dare you order our food and make me work.” Too bad because the food was superb. Good riddance.
