After a five-month renovation, Market District is set to open at 9:30 this morning in the former Giant Eagle space at Crocker Park. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place at 10:30 a.m.
In addition to the usual assortment of produce and food products, Market District will offer an in-store bar, a full-service bank, a pharmacy and a Starbucks coffee shop.
“We are elated to welcome Market District to the Promenade at Crocker Park,” says Bob Stark, Chief Executive Officer for Stark Enterprises, in a press release about the store’s opening. “Their innovative concept to give customers a more unique and memorable experience at their Market District locations aligns perfectly with the values we have for anyone that walks onto Crocker Park. They truly are changing the way we think about grocery shopping, and we are excited to have them in Westlake.”

I feel like this location is the beginning of the dilution of the Market District brand – typically that has been reserved for new construction locations that are expansive (thus the name “district”).
Aldi is just down the street and Marc’s and Fresh Thyme are across the street from Crocker Park. All those places have far better prices and with Fresh Thyme you’re getting better quality too.
Our bill at Marc’s Westlake today was $31.12. Same items at the “new and improved” Giant Eagle/Market District would have been $44.31–30% higher. Giant Eagle gets very little of our grocery-shopping money, and we’re keeping it that way. They can redecorate their store any way they like. It’s still limited choices and higher prices.
“Rating it compared to other Market Districts. It’s decent as far as supermarkets go but is just missing something. Other market districts seem warmer and have a better overall feel. This one seems like they rushed the opening; like they had a big open warehouse and added the aisles, then kept it bare bones.”
From the Google reviews. Called it.
