Husband and wife partners Kevin Moore and Hadley Conner grew tired of having to travel long distances to enjoy a well-made drink in an attractive setting, so they set about building a cocktail lounge in their home village of Northfield Center. When it opens next week, the Moonglow Lounge (85 West Aurora Rd.) will add a splash of effervescence to the local drinks scene.

“This is definitely one of the first of its kind in the area,” notes Moore. “There’s not anything like it around here.”

You might have seen Moore hanging around Porco Lounge, where he occasionally carves ornate tikis that end up adorning that bar and others. For this project, he’s enlisted the help of some “wild mixologists,” who have crafted a cocktail menu loaded with some “real ringers.”

The 49-seat speakeasy in the heart of town, formerly the Little Tavern, features a 1960s Vegas cocktail lounge theme – “It’s a neat looking little joint,” adds Moore, “with a really nice atmosphere. It’s going to be a place you can take a date and be able to enjoy yourself and have a great cocktail while you’re at it.”

In addition to classic cocktails, mocktails and skinnys, many featuring the fruits of local distillers, there will be eight taps devoted to Ohio breweries. Some light snacks will be on hand as well.

Moore says the name was borrowed from a cool, old bar a few towns over that no longer exists.

  1. Was the cool, old bar, that no longer exists, the Moonglow in Bedford? The place next to Viaduct Park… the Metropark spot where the falls are/ And across the street from the old chair factory that also no longer exists?

That was a cool place, all right…an old dump with a musty smell from mildew, but still a cool place that was probably even cooler back in the day. They even had an ancient black-and-yellow outdoor sign on the wall that advertised “pizza PIE”…which was what it used to be called in the Fifties (and still is in NYC and NJ).

I would have killed to obtain that sign when the place was torn down. Wonder who has it now?

  2. I hope they do a better job of bringing Vegas to NEO than the owners of “Miami Nights” did when they tried to bring South Beach up here.

  3. Q.) Was the cool old bar THAT NO LONGER EXISTS the Moonglow in Bedford?

    A) The Moonglow in Bedford HAS BEEN TORN DOWN.

    (shaking head in amazement) Like…duh!

  4. “There used to be an old bar in Bedford that was torn down, called the Moonglow”…and the name sounded so cool…like some place from another time…so we decided to use it.”
