This Moment in Black History

The annual South By Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) takes place in Austin from March 14-18. It’s basically five days of jamming, networking, schmoozing, partying, puking and druggin’. Hundreds of bands come from around the planet — some famous, some not so famous, some corporate, some indie. And in addition to the official festival, there’s hundreds of unofficial gigs going down around town.
So far, three Cleveland bands are on the official list: On Thursday, This Moment in Black History unleashes its post-hardcore synth-freakery upon the Cold Sweat/Buddyhead showcase at the, uh, Blender Balcony at the Ritz (320 East 6th Street).
The same day, those reunited garage-rock legends, the Alarm Clocks, play the Norton Records showcase at Red 7 (611 East 7th Street).
Come Friday, in Emo’s Main Room (603 Red River Street), the Vacancies are gonna punk-the-fuck-out with some help from Joan Jett.
Check back frequently; if we turn up any Cleveland bands headed down for unofficial party action, we’ll promptly inform you. — Justin Farrar
