Kinks Bassist Pete Quaife Dies

Sad news: Founding Kinks bassist Pete Quaife died after battling kidney problems for the past decade. He was 66.

Quaife was an original member of the Kinks, playing on some of the band's best and biggest songs, including "You Really Got Me," "All Day and All of the Night," and "Waterloo Sunset."

He also played on The Village Green Preservation Society, one of the best albums ever made and one that should be in your collection (if it isn't, go buy it. Now).

Quaife left the band before it started making crappy records. Not so surprisingly, he quit after one too many arguments with frontman Ray Davies (you heard about Davies' on-stage fights with his bandmates, right?).

When the Kinks were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, he was there with them. And deservedly so.
