[image-1]This coming Monday (3/28), proposals are due from companies that wish to fabricate, install and remove the welcome signage for the 2016 RNC.
In its Request for Proposal (RFP) issued earlier this month, the 2016 Host Committee said it planned on providing artwork to the selected vendor for “street pole banners, building banners and storefronts enhancements,” all of which are part of the host committee’s citywide beautification efforts before the July convention.
It should be no surprise that the storefront enhancements — mesh wraps, vinyl graphics, “other solutions” — will be used to cover up some of the uglier storefronts downtown. The current suggested locations are exclusively on Euclid Avenue and Prospect Avenue.
More specifically:
- 1001-1021, and 1101 Euclid Avenue. Mesh images are planned for the empty building windows.
- 1118-1148 Euclid Avenue, just down the street on the north side. It’s the Cleveland Athletic Club building and its neighbor to the east.
- 105-109 Prospect Avenue, a portion of the graffiti-adorned storefront on the south side of the street.
- 202-306 Prospect Avenue, the other side of the street, the iconic “Goldfish Army Stores.”
Potential building banner locations have been proposed on Euclid Avenue, E. 9th Street, Public Square, and St. Clair. Street pole banners are proposed on portions of Euclid Avenue, Chester Avenue and East Boulevard.

?? Why do we have to cover up anything? Our city is beautiful. It has some blemishes, yes, but it’s old, historic, and has had some hard times in the past. The blemishes remind us that we are still a work in progress. What is wrong with that?

Better idea — put actual stores in those spaces. They can be fake stores, as long as real merch is in them, then they can be taken down after the convention. But who knows, maybe enterprising merchants can take over the leases after the convention if they see real customers in these fake stores.
Well….got Gilbert Goliath on the scene now. TO be fair to Him FEW others or no one did much of anything w/these old buildings. NO idea ‘reasons’ behind non action. Suspect all of it….bankruptcy, probate, parking mess, too little customer ‘base’, semi bad race relations, fee/fine/jailtime mantra and a 111 other things ( downsizings, corporate MOVES, buyouts, automation,corporate raiders,etc.etc.etc. AND etc., etc…..)
LISTEN…played games w/musical chair thing far as GENERAL offices to keep what HAVE (or had) and NOW stuck w/mega space as ‘genuises’ hired to SOMEHOW unload all that which to a point have… STILL have ‘genuises’ chasing what LEFT of WHOEVER has $, some contracts,etc. MAYBE supposed Internet Name firms or WHATEVER is ‘supposed’ to be ‘here’ or coming here have what it takes….HATE to bet the bank on THAT….either monolithic monsters aka the MCs, GEs, I*Ms, Oracle Bird, Red Bat, Applets, or semi other extreme and sure got ENOUGH OTHER cities,etc.chasing THAT uber wunder ekon biz models..WHOLE idea of tech is 1) faster 2) cheaper 3) better (? Never mind) 4) cut costs 5) CUT PEOPLE aka distribution, factory jocks…
MAYBE what see is END RESULT of all the YUPPIE CHASING… WHOEVER has hands on buildings now @ those listed locations waiting for it all…historic tax creds, OTHER interested parties,etc. cuz figure Happy Cash Days are here and can sell out way FCE had. Far as FCE? HAD a chance w/MED MART and semi fudged THAT UP….maybe more to that storyline and couldn’t, wouldn’t ‘bend’ far as terms but it sure don’t seem like it… ALL THAT ‘assumes’ IS such demand,etc. or can get financing or no UPCOMING ‘another’ crisis, Great Recession,etc. which quite frankly. ASSUMES Yups HAVE the $ to cough up…
Euclid Ave. stuff? Say One has title to H.Brown building…NOW what? “TALK” of mega OTHER projects…HOW viable is all this as beat each others brains out? STARK lurks out there tooo w/His supposed East 6 th NUKED project..SAME w/the OTHER deals aka 1275 W.3rd@ st.clair. GOT likes of ERIE TOWER to gosh all knows what else…. good old CSU seems to like to build NEW which to point can understand…

Far as RNC? THIS vain rallying cry Frankie or whoever is TRYING to do last battle with….meantime average slobs doing WHATEVER work WHEREVER for WHOEVER…. I can ‘read’ all kinds of ‘stuff’ into THOSE efforts. It semi hurts but finally demolition seems to be way to go…. ONE thing CAN agree w/MR. Gilbert on….
ECOn development? TAKING care of old, sick folks….Metro Health is just the latest buzz factor out there….As TRY n grab NIH,other monies in last bid which can’t blame hospital for doing. can pic the sandwhich shops, pharmacies,other TRYING to go in….a real chopped up affair over there. SOME streets pretty decent. Suspect have guns &/or ‘dealers’,other that folks don’t mess with. Then got well anyways…Meantime poo crack hoes and rest semi shoved ELSEWHERE thou @ rate going @ FEWER and FEWER cuz less and less demand due to it all ranging the gamut…this sharing of bunts,etc. Oh well hey…CAN ONLY HOPE CLEAN the blood WELL done @ plasma places…..MAYBE SOME HOPE there.
