Celebrate! Bobby Womack Is Cancer-Free

In a complete reversal of all the shitty news recently involving cancer and artists we really, really like, Bobby Womack is now completely cancer-free.

The 68-year-old R&B legend, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and, most importantly, Cleveland native posted some great news on his Facebook page this morning:

We're delighted to announce that Bobby Womack has successfully undergone surgery for suspected colon cancer. A tumour was removed last night which turned out to be cancer free. We wish him all the best in his recovery from the operation. Thank you for all your kind messages and support.

Womack was diagnosed with colon cancer in March.

This is even greater news since Womack has a new album, The Bravest Man in the Universe, coming out on June 12. It's his first album of original material in almost 20 years.

The record was produced by Damon Albarn (who recruited Womack for the last couple of Gorillaz albums) and Richard Russell. We've heard it, and we love it.

Our review will run in Scene the week it comes out. —Michael Gallucci
