Cleveland chef Jonathan Sawyer was hit by an RTA paratransit bus this morning on what appears to be Euclid Ave. He posted the photos on Instagram (pictured right).

Channel 5 is characterizing Sawyer’s social media updates as “urging bikers to be aware,” but it sounds much more like “urging motorists to open their eyes.” That’s why he said “DRIVERS, please check your side view mirrors, etc.”
The owner of Greenhouse Tavern and Noodlecat is not happy with the RTA folks either:

I actually almost got hit on my way home from work yesterday – 2nd time in 3 weeks by the same driver! I have called the RTA and they keep brushing me off… I am 7 months pregnant and cannot afford to be hit by a bus… This driver cuts over in to the other lane and doesn’t even notify other motorists or yeild – when he is actually in the wrong… oh wait… the best part…. he honks at me!!! Seriously?!?!? It is at the worst intersection in Beachwood (North on Park East turning East on Chagrin). I am going to take this to the city if nothing is done – it is rediculous!!!
My brother was hit by an RTA bus when walking across the street and had to have to leg amputated. RTA drivers on the worst drivers on our streets and something really has to be done with these drivers. The driver that hit my brother had several offenses on her license but is STILL driving for RTA.
Maybe we can get some special bike lanes Downtown now!
I am sorry for you both :(. What gets me here is why people are disliking your comments. WTH is wrong with u people? Are you RTA drivers? These people are very lucky to not have been hit. I have seen these crazy drivers cut off so many drivers, come on cant we find legitimate people to drive our loved ones? Blessings to you both for listing your stories and shame on the haters!!!!!
Beware the RTA! If you’re not getting punched in the face while on the bus, you’ll get run over while you’re walking to avoid being on the bus! Maybe the new paint job and designs for the RTA buses should be black, painted to look like metallic grim reapers. Because that’s pretty much what they are. Buses…of Death!!!
