Cleveland will host the Republican National Convention in 2016.

The press secretary of the Republican Governors Association, among plenty of other sources – like Mark Zinni! – confirmed the news. We’re still briefly awaiting the official announcement from the committee.

The RNC grab is, of course, huge news: a boost to the local economy, use of the new Hilton hotel (hey, you’re paying for it!), a firm national spotlight on our lovely town and plenty of opportunities for that prized Reince Priebus autograph you’ve been wanting.

And Tuesday’s barrage of local conjecture ain’t over yet: The local media circles are still buzzing away over LeBron James’ future. With the right ears (and the right frequency on your car radio), you can still hear that old Cleveland adage, “It’s not that he left, it was how he did it.” Ho hum.

  2. This is outstanding! Hats off to all of the corporate and community leaders who came together to make this happen. Regardless of party affiliation, this is good for North East Ohio!!! We need to work together to show the country that it has a “North Shore” and it is a great place to work and live.

  3. having this will bring in tons of money to the city but whoring out to these career criminal politicians is sickening. the two-party system that’s been in place for over 200 years has led to the rise of multinational corporations who are above the law and buy politicians whenever necessary. in some cases, the average person has a higher tax rate than these multi-billion dollar companies, most of whom ship jobs overseas. meanwhile, the wealth gap grows every day creating more poverty and dependence on government. and that same government’s intelligence agencies treat its people like terrorists by intercepting and collecting any information it can, illegally, on them while the real terrorist groups are created and trained by the those agencies as mercenaries such as the taliban in ’80s… but it’s great for the city, though.

  7. We can be nice to the Republicans for a week as we take their money. The extremely hostile protestors that they attract will do our dirty work for us. *smirk*
