Cuyahoga Falls is all aflutter over a proposed 8:00 p.m. curfew for anyone under 18. Proponents say that the riverfront area has become a meeting ground for the dreaded undesirables. Loitering kids are hanging out under bridges, and that, friends, calls for drastic action.
Mayor Don Robart is particularly worried about a couple of things: goth kids and piercings. He also may or may not want you to get off his lawn and turn down your hippity-hop music.
Patch reports that the police chief is genuinely concerned for the safety of kids after Akron officers spotted “gangbangers” from the inner-city. Mayor Robart, on the other hand, thinks that if shop at Hot Topic, you’re a menace to society. Enjoy the insanity in the video below.

hah I was one of the “goth” kids back in the day. Yeah we did stupid things but we aren’t bad people. We just like to dress a different way. I used to go down to the river front to hang out and the real problem were the wiggers and icp teens. They are the ones that started fights, never the goth kids. He also says inner city Akron gang bangers…. okay i live in Akron.. we have no true gang bangers just wanna bes. also not all of the gang bangers are from Akron , they come right out of c.falls. dont put the blame on other citys and certain types of people. its just ignorant kids and teens. i am older now..21 and i still have piercings and tattoos.. but i am a nursing asst. and going to college to become a nurse. i think he just needs to take a look at his own city and just realize its just stupid teens in general.
i still have friends to this day who have mohawks.. tats and dress “weird” but they are all in college, and doing great with their lives.

When I was a 16 to 20 years old my friends and I would hang out under that bridge almost every night during the summer… we would do such awful things like… draw.. and … play acoustic guitars… and .. talk…… What evil kids we were with our long hair and “goth” clothes… Eat it Robart.. you have no idea what those kids are doing.

I am 34 years old. I am the owner of a small but very successful software engineering company that, among other things, subcontracts to a couple of very large online companies that I’m reasonably certain you’ve heard of. My home is paid for. My car is paid for. I have no debts and I have never been “in trouble” with the law. I also have spiked black hair and numerous piercings – facial and otherwise. Typically, I wear black. And when I feel like it, I’ll slap on a little black eyeliner, too. Does this frighten you, Mr. Robart? Because if it does, you are probably too timid to effectively hold the office you currently enjoy.

Actually being a resident of this community and paying taxes there…I think I have a right to say that I agree that there should be a curfew placed on minors in this area. What the Mayor said is idiotic and uninformed, of course. However, what the police chief touched on briefly is that they are trying to avoid having minors injured. Which has happened in the past during this event. The other issue that the police chief didn’t mention is the local businesses and how they are affected by the minors in question. My neighbor owns the gas station that is across from the square. They have to triple staff the station and spend three times the money every Friday evening over the summer to prevent theft in their market. Why do they have to do that? Because the police are too busy responding to fights and other issues on the riverfront. He has even considered closing his station on nights of events on the riverfront. THAT is an issue! Parents need to start taking responsibility for what their kids do and if that means that they are going to pay several fines to learn that lesson, so be it.
You bratty amateurs don’t know how to gangbang or use drugs or threaten people. Leave that to the pros. You know, the police.

Cuyahoga Falls is extremely soft, so is everyone from it. It’s a small town that has high taxes and festivals down by the river every summer. Although I can certainly see why young men from Falls would try to act strong and gangster, just to cover up the fact that they couldnt be farther from it if they ran. But the most that can cause is some chest bumping, pushing, and shit talking (which is for some reason referred to as a “fight” by natives of Cuyahoga Falls.) I’ve never seen real violence down at the riverfront (although I have had a knife pulled on me, but that was by an intoxicated man in his 30s that looked about as clean cut as they come minus the flagrant alcoholism. High school kids fighting does not equal gang violence.

The Mayor’s misinformed. He’s also a little bigotted. Goths aren’t violent. They way they dress isn’t any different than we were in the 70’s with our long hair. The problem is with the black males coming in from Akron and they’re drunk or high. I’m 55 and not ‘out of touch’. I’m also not racist – I was married to a ‘man of color’ for 15 years. My daughter was 17 last summer and was down at the Riverfront with her boyfriend. They were being provoked by 5 young black males. She argued back at them telling them to shut up. The cops were standing right there watching and didn’t intervene. What was that about? So my daughter and her boyfriend had to leave the Riverfront, instead of the cops asking the bumbs to leave. Think they were afraid of them? Was that fair? My daughter and her boyfriend are residents. Where are the kids going to go and what are they going to do? The ‘Nat’ or ‘Y’ doesn’t have pool tables, foos ball, basketball courts, ping pong……….. So, OUR kids get chased out and banned. They don’t have anything to do all winter and look forward to the concerts and Friday Nights. Wonderful. They learn to hate the ‘Falls’ and move out. Guess who’s going to move in? Akronites. The kind the cops just stood by observing, verbally harrass my daughter. You get what you deserve.
