Despite the fact absolutely zero public tax dollars fund abortions (except in three narrowly defined situations under the Hyde Amendment), the GOP is still pushing to defund the health clinic that offers life-saving non-abortion-related health care for the poor.
The massive push to defund Planned Parenthood began in 2015 when now debunked videos surfaced accusing the health clinic of “selling baby parts.” After a deep investigation, it was proven that there were never any sales of fetal tissue.
Unfortunately, since the GOP has a tendency to have the same acceptance of facts as all of our weird aunts posting Minions memes about vaccinations being dangerous, they’ve continued to pursue defunding Planned Parenthood.
Ohio’s often-challenged law has remained in limbo for the last two years, and the law forbids Ohio from contracting for health services with any entity that performs or promotes non-therapeutic abortions.
If the law is found to be constitutional, it would effectively defund Planned Parenthood of public money in Ohio and bar the agency from obtaining contracts to provide health services across the state.
Despite a Cincinnati federal judge declaring the law unconstitutional in 2016, the state asked the full appeals court to re-hear the case and it was announced yesterday that the court intends to hear the case “as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, your tax dollars do still pay for Medicaid which can be used for these same GOP lawmakers to get prescriptions for Viagra or other erectile dysfunction pills to make sure that men’s sexual health is well taken care of.
