Eight years ago this week — Sept. 16, 2007 — the Big Dipper came to a screeching halt, the water was drained from Turtle Beach, and the beloved Geauga Lake Amusement Park shut its doors for good.

Since that time, the park has remained dormant and decaying in Bainbridge Township, save for the occasional ruin porn photographer who ventures past the rusty gates or the unnamed drone that flies over the coaster wasteland to offer nostalgic northeast Ohioans a peek inside the old attraction.

One such video popped up on YouTube just last week, thanks to our pals at Aerial Agents. Just in time for the anniversary, here’s the latest birds-eye view of the abandoned Geauga Lake Amusement Park.

  1. After all these years, it’s a pretty safe bet that no one wants the old dipper anymore. I’m sure it’s horribly rotted and it’ll be collapsing eventually, can we at the very least knock it down or set it on fire or something so it’s not just sitting there? It’s really depressing to see such a great coaster sitting there, waiting for riders that are never boarding. No one is coming to buy, disassemble, and move it somewhere else, so at the very least lets give it a final farewell and send it off to the great roller coaster park in the sky.
