“Welcome to Scene Magazine Online!” (This is still what I say to myself every time I go to our website.)
We thought we’d share a little trip down memory lane — to the earliest available iteration of our very own homepage, circa Nov. 2, 1996. And even better than just looking at it, you can actually visit this functioning slice of history.
Of note: The late and always excellent Murray Saul worked (or “worked”) in the ad department; 19-year-old Fiona Apple had wowed new fans at Lakewood Civic Auditorium that week; the “Akron Blast” minor league baseball team was looking for a new name (which they would go on to do yet again in 2013); and we gave a glowing review to Korn’s Life is Peachy, so, uh, sorry about that.

And – to think – that back in the day, there were plenty of print media suits who laughed at the Internet and believed that people would always need inky fingers to go along with reading news and entertainment stories. That most doubled-down with golden parachutes is another side of the story.
