The New York Times posted an article about the Tribe’s Snow Days festivities and here’s just about the only interesting thing to take away from the piece:
Encouraging that habit would seem particularly important for the Indians, who drew fewer fans — 1,391,644 — than any other major league club this season. Although the Indians expect to take a financial loss on this year’s Snow Days, it does serve as a form of creative advertising for the team.
Insert your own Cleveland Indians joke here.
This article appears in Dec 22-28, 2010.

thats what happens when you have a conservative owner with no-money to dish out on talent.
you trade 2 consecutive CY young winners and have snow days to try to make money?
Cleveland will support a winning team but lets face it, presently we are a 3A team at best.
the SHIP is SINKING FAST and its time for Dolan to jump ship and sell………….
It takes putting money into something to get money out of something. Snow Days will make a profit next year. I believe the event brings a much needed traffic drive to the downtown area during the winter season and is enjoyable for the entire family. It is a creative and fun way to take advantage of the winter season in an urban environment. Go Progressive Field!
Sorry, but I have no desire whatsoever to take my family to Snow Days. Pockets are tight as it is, I refuse to pay for snow fun when I have a backyard with snow, a hill to go to for sledding and it doesn’t take much to stand by the fire if needed.
its time for dolan to get out ,we need an owner who loves the game of baseball and not just the money , we cleveland fans are the best in the world , but we want a winner , bring us a winner and you can bet us fans will spend. keep the snow ,make money by bringing us a winner. the indians were supposed to rebuild ,if this is rebuilding your team then us cleveland fans are in trouble. we need to stop buying tickets and show dummy dolan NO WINNER NO MONEY
kids are in from california and are excited about snowdays….what a birth of a great cleveland tradition!!!
Pretty sad that Dolan is charging 27.50 for 2 hours of fun at a kids expense. Most parents are working class folks that cannot afford to take 2 children and themselves at $110.00. Thats grocery money for their families. Shame on Dolan to take advantage of children for the almighty dollar. All he cares about is money in his pocket. He is truely a scrouge this Christmas. Only those who can afford are good time are worthy. What about all those fans that spend money during the games over the summer, even if its bleacher seats, it still puts money in his pocket. Capitalist pig he is.
It’s too pricey for the average family. They need to lower the price so that everyone can afford to take a family of 5.
If it wasn’t so pricey I would be able to take my 3 grandchildren. But I can’t afford that price. WOW…lower your prices.
Hey daddy wags, are you just a fool “kids are in from california and are excited about snowdays….what a birth of a great cleveland tradition!!!” What tradition is he trying to begin? How to take your hard earned money and keep it for himself. If he wans a tradions, then he should follow Dick Jacobs blue print of owning a team. he may not have won a World Series, but at least he tried to by spending money for players to win and by keeping them. Not by having a firesale after every season.
He should sell the team to someone who wants to but it …. Dan Gilbert, so he can at least try to have a team. As I heard from the arean upper brass, he had offered a price to buy the team, but douchebag Dolan wanted what he had paid por the team, 350M. He overpaid for this team with probably the encouragement of his financial advisor, who knows nothing about sports, and got stuck with a team he had no idea how to win with.
It time for him to sell at a bargan basement price so he can get out of the entertainment business of owning a minor league team and his STUPID SNOW DAYS. What a friggin’ joke he and this event is.
In case you didn’t know, The simple reason the Dolans will not spent big money in free agency-
The Jacobs bought all their hi priced free agents with credit (the playoff, and world series years)
When they Dolans acquired the team, they inherited that debt. They “the Dolans”are STILL paying it off.
there is snow on snake hill….some of the kids have sleds, some have cardboard boxes..all are sledding and having “SNOW DAYS” fun..without a penny going to some rich person
Ummmm…who in their right mind would want to be in downtown Cleveland for ANY reason let alone a stupid idea like Crap Days…pardon me…Snow Days???
Once again another inaccurate story by Scene here is a accurate story about snow days from channel 5: While ‘Snow Days’ at Progressive Field may be over for the season, Opening Day for the Indians is just around the corner.
The Cleveland Indians announced on Monday that Indians Snow Days, which was open for its first season at Progressive Field from Nov. 26, 2010 – Jan. 2, 2011, attracted over 50,000 fans.
“Indians Snow Days was created to give our fans and everyone in our community an opportunity to spend time with Family, create memories and connect with the Cleveland Indians and Progressive Field in a new, exciting and fun way,” said Indians President Mark Shaprio in a press release. “By those measures, Indians Snow Days was a success for us and the Cleveland community. We created additional event dates which drove visitors to downtown Cleveland to create a new holiday tradition at Progressive Field when this facility has traditionally been dormant.”
Indians fans have just a couple of months before they can return to the field, but this time for baseball. Opening Day is April 1.
The hill at Edgewater is free. So is parking. Ice skating at Wade Oval is far cheaper. And there is absolutely nothing to do downtown except eat and drink at overpriced restaurants or douchebag bars.
The “2 hours” referred to access to the Batterhorn sledding only. You could skate and do anything else in the park all day if you wanted on your ticket, or if you weren’t interested in the Batterhorn there was a discounted ticket you could purchase. They do the Batterhorn in 2-hour windows to keep waiting in lines down. Yes there’s a hill at Edgewater and skating at Wade Oval (which is artificial ice which is Absolutely Awful to skate on for anyone who actually knows how to skate), but who wants to spend an hour sledding at Edgewater and then say “okay let’s pack up and go skating at Wade Oval!” Get real. This is a nice way to pack in some varied and fun winter sports in one place with your family, something that’s been severely lacking in Cleveland for many winters. I for one am happy the Dolans decided to do a little something different this year with an otherwise vacant ballpark. FYI, in any situation like this the first year is nearly always a money loss. Equipment rentals, perfecting the setup, etc…doesn’t matter if it were Mr. Dolan or Hank/Hal Steinbrenner. Mr. Grzegorek reporting that tidbit “takeaway” like it’s some kind of mind-blowing smoking gun is laughable and shows how little he understands about the financial process.
Lets see, I remember as a kid, there being numerous hills around for sledding…all for FREE!! Mom or dad always brought hot chocolate to warm the insides, including the hands while holding the cup, so, the refreshments were surely cheap. We also didn’t have to drive so far and…the parking was FREE!!! So explain to me again the reason for this Indians Snow Days?
Despite what others are saying, we went to Snow Days on the Saturday Night after Thanksgiving. We had a great time. My adult children and friends skated while my husband and I drank hot chocolate, sat in the Visitor’s Dugout and took videos of people having lots of fun. It was something “different” to do in Cleveland and lots of young families took advantage of it. Cleveland needs supportive people who see efforts such as Snow Days as a way to get families to enjoy our city.
Bunch of friends and I went and we had a GREAT time! The inner tube chute was okay but next year we will save $17 and just ice skate which was a blast!
Seriously folks…We gotta quit being so freaken whiny, the rest of the country rolls their eyes at us enough…Makes us look like fat, pregnant, welfare leeches…
