Linndale — you know Linndale, that three-foot span of I-71 noted as one of the most notorious speed traps in Ohio — fights a constant battle to exist. It seems every few years some politician takes up the public’s fight and tries to negotiate some bill that would restrict cities’ right to have a mayor court based on population size.

Linndale has survived each and every one of these so far. Most recently, 101 was established as the number of residents required for a mayor court, and thus the million or so dollars that come along with the ability to ticket and rake in fines. Linndale was safely above that number, barely, based on the 2000 Census which showed 117 people living there, though pegged as a small hamlet faced with a dwindling population.

Then the 2010 U.S. Census data came out and, lo and behold, Linndale suddenly sported 179 citizens, though, it should be noted that even Linndale councilmen and residents think that number is inflated. But a 53% growth in population?

  1. The coackroaches are always under the bridge on I-71 right in the shade like a snake trying not to be seen.

  2. I always drive through Linndale @ 58 m.p.h! It takes an extra 15 seconds out of my day, but it’s soooo worth not getting a ticket.

  3. They also have a nice little speed trap for their 15 feet off 117th just between Brooklyn and Cleveland where it drops from 35 to 25. They sit in an alley by Burger King about 5 feet over the border and write tickets all day.

  4. Me and my cousin got caught right across the street from Burger King. He was sitting there like an ole spider waiting to jump on his prey!!

  5. Lindale Meter Maids and politicians should be more concerned with the drug dealers and gang activity on Puritas. Instead they prey on those who pas thru their community like vultures. They are an insult to real policeman

  6. Lindale is not big enough to have drug dealers, those low life’s are in Cleveland. But what I find really interesting about this article is that the Census is off by nearly 50%

  7. Hey northcoastmovies , why don’t you see what city Puritas Avenue is in before you bitch & complain that it’s in Linndale. Hey rocket scientist, Puritas Avenue is in CLEVELAND !! Get your locations right befor you type something else incorrectly.
