Joe Tait will hang up his sweater tonight, broadcasting his final Cavs game before signing off for good. It’s sad day around these parts (the internet) as everyone tries to summon the words to describe just what Tait has meant to Cleveland for the past 40 odd years.

We’ll point you in two directions.

First, here’s Sam Amico’s moving tribute to Tait, which was our favorite Tait-related read of the day.

Second, here’s a soundboard of some of Tait’s most famous calls, including the Miracle of Richfield and LeBron’s epic playoff performance in Detroit.

Goodnight, sir.

  1. In my opinion there’s no equal to joe tait when it comes to calling a basketball game. I will miss him calling the games, it’s been a pleasure and nobody does it better!!!
