I have the greatest job in the world, or so I’m told on a regular basis. And for the most part, I do. I get to write and, more importantly, be read, on a consistent basis about a compelling subject. Over the course of almost 10 years on the food beat I have met an incredible cast of dedicated, passionate, and inspirational folks. And I get to eat. A lot. Much of it good.

Penning the recent Scene cover story “25 Restaurants Cleveland Can’t Live Without” was fun, but not without its consequences. While 25 may sound like a nice, plump figure, it barely scratches the surface of the Cleveland dining scene. Naturally, there was bound to be some hurt feelings along with the praise.

First, some praise.

For 25 years, Douglas Trattner has worked as a full-time freelance writer, editor and author. His work as co-author on Michael Symon's cookbooks have earned him four New York Times Best-Selling Author honors, while his longstanding role as Scene dining editor has garnered awards of its own.
