ABC recently announced that “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” would not be returning to the screens of lonely housewives, relaxing stay-at-home moms, and old women after this season. This news sent shockwaves through the country. Soap operas, after all, are part of the fabric of TV and America.

Reaction has been strong and negative. Fans flooded the network with pleas to reconsider. Message boards flared up with angry and desperate missives. Grandmas from coast to coast spewed vitriol and four-letter words at their big-box television screens, nearly spilling their slo gin fizzes in the commotion.

One man, however, had the power to make a bigger stand for everyone’s favorite long-lost-sister’s-twin-marries-father’s-gay-lover-who-came-back-from-the-dead entertainment.

Vince Grzegorek has been with Scene since 2007 and editor-in-chief since 2012. He previously worked at Discount Drug Mart and Texas Roadhouse.
