Construction barrels have become semi-permanent fixtures here in the Forest City, and what better way to document their time on our roadways than by making it "Facebook official?"
At least that's what one neighborhood is doing after "
Barry the Barrel" was set up at West 144th Street and Montrose more than a year ago. It's been faithfully guarding its intersection — and
this seemingly bottomless hole — ever since.
From its West Park perch, Barry's weathered all sorts of things, like polar vortex-esk temperatures:
Work injuries:
And even the Brelo verdict:
(Though, truth be told, this is Barry Jr. as Barry Sr. didn't survive a snowplow incident over the winter.)
Adam Pate, a neighbor and the original creator of Barry's Facebook page told
Cleveland.com recently that the page was created for fun and on a whim, but of course it points toward bigger issues, like road repairs not being completed in a timely manner.
"Usually when you put up an orange barrel it means you'll be back to fix something. But they just slapped a plate on it and a barrel and took a mulligan," Pate told Cleveland.com.
Yesterday, though, it appears
Barry was finally given company and progress on the intersection is underway. No word yet on how much longer Barry will hold court.
